In Mexico in 2018, only 47 films were directed by women. If female directors already struggle to get noticed, now imagine an indigenous female director; they are practically invisible. After 40 years, Victoria, the popular beer known for preserving Mexican culture, was able to rescue the first series of unpublished films created in 1987 by indigenous women.

In collaboration with Martha Colmenares, one of those directors, we created 'The Unseen Film,' the first documentary of Mexican culture seen through the eyes of indigenous female directors using never-before-seen footage. For the first time, we premiered the documentary in the most popular cinemas in Mexico.

The film is about how Martha used cinema as a tool for cultural exchange between her community and the surrounding towns, preserving her culture and traditions for future indigenous generations.

The film was premiered at Cinepolis, the most important cinema chain in Mexico, giving visibility to the work of a female director for the first time and giving hope for future indigenous women to share their stories. We also released the film on streaming platforms, reaching more than 4 million active users in Mexico and the Americas.
